BACK TO PREVIOUS

14/4/2013

Work continues as time permits. As you can see the front guards are all but fitted up and I am pleased with the end result when I compare to what I started out with. I have made a small error on them by not doing the repairs with them bolted up to the chassis as this has resulted in some of the mounting holes being slightly out of alignment by half of their diameter or so. It is not a thing that will be seen or matter that much as big flat washers cover the mistake.

I have moved on to tackle a winscreen frame - the picture tells the story on what I am dealing with. The one for the previous car was missing alltogether and these scraps were what I based the replica one on  - that one I wanted plated and really nice but it was weeks and weeks of effort. This one will be painted black so I am making up patch sections to get some structural integrity into it and the rest will be fillers. ( I may have a go at Lead)

We have also moved on to a cowling, it has rust in the usual lower portion where the moisture gets in between the metal and the wooden frame and they rot from the inside out. Pach panels are in place and it just needs final smoothing out and replacement of the framework - this will most likely be a composite of wood and metal as an "exercise"

Despite the huge gap in posting any updates, the projectis still going on albeit slowly due to life in general getting in the way so we continue..............

As you can see from the picture at the left, the cowl is fitted up to the chassis to help get everything aligned as bes we can. The windscreen frame is also roughly back into the shape it should be. Drivers side is still in need of the old paint and surface rust to be removed but the whole thing is framed out and rock solid. Cowl side lamps are reproduction jobs to suit a 1928 A model Ford that we have decided to use as "we had them" - originally vehicle would have worn "Duco" units which will may be fitted up way down the track if someone can be found to remove the dents and replate them at a cost that would not bankrupt anyone. Not shown in the photo is the headlamp bar fitted up with the buckets and relectors in place. The headlamp rims are a work in progress with new retainer clips having been made and glass sourced - but the rims also need the touch of a talented artisan and replating so will be on the back burner until some pennies are saved up.
