The Historic Motor Vehicle Gathering

Organised by The Vintage Sports Car Club of South Australia, the annual Historic Motor Vehicle Gathering is held on the 3rd Sunday in March every year. The 2025 event will be held on Sunday 16th March at Barratt Reserve, West Beach from 10am to 2.00pm.

This annual display gives the public a chance to see just how quickly vehicles evolved in the first few decades of the past century.

Everything from spindly, single-cylinder cars and bikes well over 100 years old, capable of just 40kph, to large eight-cylinder luxury vehicles from the height of the “Roaring Twenties” more than capable of mixing it with modern traffic will be on display.
This is not just a great opportunity to see the history of motoring and marvel at the design, development, and grandeur of these magnificent vehicles, but a chance to meet and talk with their proud custodians.

This is also an opportunity for younger people to see ‘up close and personal’ relics from an era of motoring very few living people truly remember, thus helping to foster and preserve an interest in the historic vehicle movement. The vehicles will be displayed at Barratt Reserve, West Beach from 10:00am to 2:00pm. There is no entry form or admission charge for entrants or spectators, and free car parking is available on the same grounds.

Enter off West Beach Road. There will be on-site catering .

This event was instigated and organized by the late David Read and was held for the first time on Sunday 6th April 2008. The idea was to provide a central venue for a get together and display, specifically for veteran and vintage vehicles.

Until 2024 the event was held at Edwards Park, just off Anzac Highway near West Terrace. Due to the unavailability of this site the event has now moved to Barratt Reserve, West Beach where it will again be held in 2025.

David put in a lot of work to get this event off the ground promoting the concept with other historical vehicle clubs and repeatedly lobbying for their participation as well as arranging media publicity. The event is now in its 27th year.

The VSCC provides marshals to co-ordinate parking at Barratt Reserve, the individual
clubs are responsible for organizing their own run to the venue.
